How to use the
Speed Welder

Ready to fix plastic fast?
This tutorial walks you through the Speed Welder nozzle with a plain hot air gun.
No fancy gear. No stress.

Step 1: Prepare Your Work-piece

  • Clean the plastic surface thoroughly. Ensure it’s free of dirt, grease, or any contaminants that could hinder the weld.
  • If working on a crack or a gaping hole, you might need to create a V-groove along the weld line. This helps the welding rod sit securely and ensures a stronger bond.

Step 2: Heat Up the Welder

  • Heat the workpiece with the hot air gun until the plastic becomes glassy and slightly soft. This indicates it’s ready for welding.
  • Attach the Speed Welder nozzle to your hot air gun.

Step 3: Weld the Plastic

  • Insert the appropriate plastic welding rod into the Speed Welder.
  • Apply gentle, consistent pressure on the Speed Welder. The heat from your hot air gun will soften both the work-piece and the welding rod, allowing the rod to self-feed into the joint.
  • Move along the weld line slowly and steadily, maintaining pressure. The Speed Welder is designed to preheat, melt, feed, and smooth the welding rod in one motion.
  • Once you reach the end of your weld, grab the rod and lift it off to break it cleanly.

Step 4: Finish and Inspect

  • Allow the welded area to cool completely.
  • Inspect your weld for an even, strong bond. The goal is a clean, strong joint that’s virtually invisible.

additional tips for
success

Identify your plastic type to ensure you use the correct welding rod for a compatible and strong weld. The Speed Welder works with most moldable plastics, including HDPE, PP, ABS, PC, Nylon, PVC, and Vinyl.

For grooving or preparing for welding, utilize the Speed Welder’s grooving feature at the bottom.

The front tip of the welder can also be used for tacking and forming the shape of the weld.
